LPD gets in high-speed chase with sex offender


According to Lumberton PD Chief Danny Sullins, Officers got in a high pursuit chase with an unregistered sex offender early Wednesday morning shortly after midnight on Jan, 8.

Employees at Altus emergency room called into dispatch about a patient acting “strangely”. The employees advised dispatch that the suspect had left in a white Kia (SUV) heading Northbound on US highway 69.

Officer Jimmy Reid spotted the vehicle leaving the hospital and activated his emergency lights to stop the vehicle when the suspect sped-up with speeds reaching over one-hundred miles per-hour (100 mph).As the suspect was coming into the Kountze area a Hardin County Sheriffs deputy deployed spikes near the Cypress Creek bridge and took out one of the vehicles tires. The suspect continued north bound eluding officers and deputies until he reached W.O.’s Friendly Tavern south of Wildwood.The suspect got out of his vehicle where a brief foot chase ensued before he was apprehended. The suspect was identified as Ronald J. Levert jr. a 38-year-old white male from Louisiana, who was arrested and charged with Evading arrest or detention with a vehicle (3rd degree felony) and an unregistered sex offender with a warrant.
