On Saturday, December 21, 2019, at approximately 12:30 PM, Silsbee Police responded to the 3000 Block of US Highway 96, at the intersection of Nerren Drive and US Highway 96, in reference to a two vehicle crash. Officers determined that a 2012 model, silver Toyota SUV pulled out in front of a 2000 model, gray Chevrolet 4 door passenger car that was traveling north on US Highway 96. The Toyota SUV was driven by Arthur Simmons, 83, from Buna, TX. Simmons was pronounced deceased at the scene by Hardin County JP 6 Jackie Werner. A passenger in the Toyota SUV, a 76 year old female from Orange, TX, was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. The Chevrolet 4 door passenger car was driven by Ian Tate, 22, of Silsbee, TX. A 21 year old female from Silsbee was a passenger in the Chevrolet. Both occupants of the Chevrolet were transported to Christus St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.
